PASSION FOR INFORMATION WORKER PRODUCTIVITY IN THE POST-PC WORLD
From Daniel Kornev’s first ThinkWeek paper outlining the Post-PC future vision to the project Zet Universe, Zet Universe, Inc. has continued to innovate and work toward the realization of a dream to enable human creativity. We are just started in our great journey to the world where every person will be able to learn upon existing human knowledge and discover the untouched areas of the social and nature sciences, to organize the chaos of information into the sets of beautiful concepts, to build own understanding of the universe to unleash own creativity.
CORPORATE TIMELINE
2022
July 2022
Given the feature requests coming from DeepPavlov users, Zet Universe V2.6 got published in the Microsoft Store. An update mechanism based on Squirrel was rebuilt to enable ad-hoc updates of the product.
February 2022
At DeepPavlov.ai, development of two new products started. Both products become connected to Zet Universe.
The first product is known as DeepPavlov Entity Extraction service (DPEX). Like Dandelion (and, earlier, Finch for Text), DPEX offers entity extraction service. While its APIs are a bit different and require input in JSON form, its output is the same as Dandelion (with improvements that don't ruin original customers). Daniel Kornev wrote a DPEX plugin for Zet Universe, enabling Zet Universe users to use DPEX for entity extraction and disambiguation towards the latest version of Wikidata and Wikipedia.
The second product is a Bot & Persona Custom Knowledge Graph. Currently based on Neo4j, this Custom KG is designed around the concepts similar to those used in Zet Universe (and Palantir Gotham): it operates on Entities, Properties, and Relationships (and Actions). On semantic level it recognizes different kinds of Entities, Properties, and Relationships (and Actions). Zet Universe is used as a tool for quick prototyping of the knowledge graph prior to populating the Custom KG with the data stored in Zet Universe.

2021
By end of 2021, it became clear that the amount of information that one needs to process at work using Slack is too big for a given user, Daniel Kornev started building a Slack plugin for Zet Universe V2. As old web services powering Insider Preview were shut down in February 2017, the requirement to sign into Zet Universe with Microsoft/Google/Facebook account has been removed from the system. To highlight this transition, the version of Zet Universe V2 was bumped to V2.5. Limited builds were made available to the selected users over 2021.
Also a small Telegram plugin was in a development but was put on hold.

2018
November 2018
By November 2018, new plugin was working with the public version of Yandex Tracker. It wasn't made available to the public though.
October 2018
Daniel Kornev transitioned Zet Universe, Inc. into a Cognitive Computing Consultancy, posing as an Interim Executive for the clients. The first client was an AI company focused on building a knowledge graph based on social and news media scrapped from the open sources.
September 2018
After leaving Yandex, Daniel Kornev turned his attention to another side of his passion for Context-aware Computing that inspired him to build Zet Universe (originally known as Project Universe in 2009) in the first place: AI assistants. His vision was to re-focus Zet Universe, Inc. on AI assistants, with the use of the technologies build as part of Zet Universe.
August 2018
As the replacement of Finch for Text component, Zet Universe got a new plugin that integrated Dandelion Entity Extraction Service into the system. Like Finch Computing, Dandelion enables extraction of entities from texts and linking them to Wikidata. Unlike Finch for Text, Dandelion provides a free tier with 1K requests per day.
July 2018
Following his passion for AI assistant, Daniel helped ship productivity scenarios for Yandex AI Assistant, Alice during his time at Yandex.
June 2018
In June 2018, Daniel Kornev started working on a new plugin for V2 of Zet Universe that enabled connection of the system to the Yandex Tracker, a JIRA-like task tracking system. This prototype originally worked only with the internal version of the service.

2017
July 2017
In July 2017 Daniel Kornev, a founder of Zet Universe, Inc., was invited to join Yandex, a Russian software company, as a Senior Product Manager for Yandex Mail, to build new Intelligent Email processing platform. This platform was in many ways a direct continuation of the Semantic Processing Pipeline that powered Zet Universe in it's V2 phase (2013-2016). Work on Zet Universe practically stopped.
February 2017
In February 2017, web services that supported Insider Preview builds of Zet Universe, have been shut down.
January 2017
The team's work continued on re-writing V3 of Zet Universe.

2016
December 2016
Two blog posts were published in the corporate blog. The first one was dedicated to the problem of fighting for UI performance in 2012-2013, featuring look-n-feel of Zet Universe in these times. The second one was a showcase of Zet Universe Demos recorded in 2009, 2012 and 2013. Special thanks to Alexander Popov for the narration of the 2013 Pre-Beta demo.
November 2016
Trying to recover after the great loss, Daniel Kornev published a blog post dedicated to Spatial UX. Also, the V3 of Zet Universe was finally showcased as the part of the blog post.
September 2016
Victor Kornev, Grand Pa of Daniel Kornev, had died after fighting for 20 days for his life in reanimation. Devastated, Daniel stopped any work on Zet Universe for a few weeks.
August 2016
August 28, 2016 was 30th birthday of the company's founder, Daniel Kornev. It was also the last normal month of his Grand Pa, Victor Kornev, who got a unrecoverable damage to his stomach a couple of weeks after a successful operation. Development of V3 continued.
July 2016
By the middle of July 2016, the team started this effort of re-writing Zet Universe. Named as V3, Zet Universe was forked from its late 2013 variant of V2. Development of the V3 started.
June 2016
In June 2016, Daniel joined with his new teammates in Nuremberg, Germany to design a new approach to Zet Universe. The idea was to get back to the drawing board, to separate UX and underlying processing system from each other. The latter was expected to be re-written in Rust.
May 2016
In May 2016 Daniel Kornev's Grand Pa, Victor Kornev, was diagnosed with stomach cancer, 4th stage, but curable. Daniel continued working with one company in Siberia to help them bridge data from SAP database in the HQ with the users in the field. Instead of MDF file format, Redis was ultimately chosen as the mechanism for storing and retrieving metadata used by Zet Universe. A yet another migration mechanism was made supporting transition from json files or MCDF file.
March 2016
By March 2016 it became clear that MCDF approach wasn't good enough. Team focused it efforts on finding a better solution.
Also, in March 2016, Zet Universe got a new plugin that integrated Finch for Text into the system. Finch for Text is an online web service provided by Finch Computing that enables extraction of entities from texts and linking them to Wikidata.
February 2016
Zet Universe got only one update in February 2016, Flight 20. Although the Alpha version of the product (2012-2013) used SQL Server 2012 as the backend, the Beta version (2013-2016) used file system directly. Individual items were represented as JSON files and stored in Zet Universe folders in %appdata% folder for the current user. However, with the introduction of item history prior to Insider Preview announcement in mid-2015, the number of JSON files saved by the product started to grow as more and more changes were made to the individual items. This got into a conflict with the AV software like Windows Defender.
Hence, January-February timeframe was dedicated to finding a better solution for storing metadata. 4 rounds of search for better solution were made: SQL database servers, JSON files, embedded SQL and NoSQL stores, and file-based solutions. By the end of February, the decision was made to use MCDF format (originally used by Microsoft Office for storing Word/Excel/PowerPoint documents).
A special migration user experience was designed to allow existing users to make a transition from old json files approach to MDF stores.
January 2016
2 new builds were made available to the Insiders. New search term "kind" was added allowing users to look up for items by their Kind in the Zet Universe's Ontology. Additional support for Windows Search-like AQL (Advanced Query Language) was added, with the option to specify which items should exist (e.g., "kind:note +cortana") and which shouldn't (e.g., "+cortana -deep"). Wildcard matching was also added to the search functionality.
Also, an official reveal of the Zet Universe's Dynamic Ontology has been made in late January 2016, accompanied by the Ontology Browser.

2015
November 2015
Like in October, November 2015 seen 3 Insider Preview builds of Zet Universe published. And, like in October, November builds were dedicated to QoL improvements, but, in addition to them, Zet Universe began a transition to a componentized architecture (thanks to the contributions from Daniel Korablin), with different components in the system being distributed as separate assemblies automatically loaded into the system in runtime. Better support for large folders was added.
In addition to that, Daniel gave his first TEDx talk at TEDxEDPokrovkaSt with the focus on Functional Illiteracy. While the idea started with the problem of Functional Illiteracy, Daniel's thesis was that for the society to maintain its intellectual level it needs smart AI assistants, a far cry from Cortana and Alexa the society had.
October 2015
3 more Insider Preview builds of Zet Universe have been published in October. A lot of QoL improvements were added to the product, like touch drag-n-drop support for importing items from custom data sources, better support for picking up changes from the file system. A new kind of items got added, Sticky Notes. Notes support both keyboard and ink input. Ink handwriting is automatically recognized and indexed by full-text search.
September 2015
4 Insider Preview builds of Zet Universe have been provided to Insiders during the September timeframe. System got an ability to show the unread items count at the Projects level. System got support for showing PDF thumbnails no matter if Windows has PDF iFilter or not. Users got an option to drag entire folders from Windows Explorer to Zet Universe, too. Smaller improvements were also introduced. Advanced search query syntax familiar to the users of Google and Windows Search was added to the product. Search by keyphrases, originally a part of the Zet Universe Alpha version, has been returned to the product.
August 2015
5 Insider Preview builds of Zet Universe have been published, including new visual tags, no need for entering "http://" when adding a web page, better full-text search experience, new keyboard shortcuts, sortings to Navigation & Search Results panes, support for adding multiple items at a time, hiding titles for pictures, marking items as read/unread, etc. Based on the user's feedback, we've added support for creating empty project spaces, adding multiple folders from a given data source, and in addition to Dropbox users got support for local folders (which means one could use any of the locally presented cloud drives like OneDrive or Google Drive). Finally, a preliminary roadmap was published.
